I am sharing my experience, and that of my sons’ with attending the Buenos Aires TEFL Institute.  My son left California seeking a new challenge and adventure abroad.  He is a typical American young man, born and raised in California. I am his supportive and protective mother.  My son was still adjusting to the many different aspects of living abroad.  He bought his ticket to South America to embrace their culture yet he had never visited another country and knew only a few words in Spanish.  The culture, language barrier, currency conversion, lack of personal transportation, enormous geographic area to navigate, and much more, impacted his journey to reach his goal of taking a course to earn his TEFL certificate in Argentina. My son found a TEFL school and was a step away from registering when he was told that they had insufficient students and were postponing the course for 6 weeks.  The delayed start forced him to seek another school to attend.  He found Buenos Aires TEFL online and provided me the details.  Immediately upon reaching out to the Director, Professor Florencia, I was sent their program overview, class dates, pricing was verified, and program options eg. Course only, or course with lodging.  I am very inquisitive and had ½ dozen conversations prior to registering to ensure my son would be placed in comfortable and safe housing, would leave the program with the TEFL textbook and materials, and very importantly, would have support from TEFL after graduation to help him connect with viable employers in Buenos Aires.  I speak no Spanish and was delighted that I was able to get all my questions answered in a clear, concise, punctual, professional and personal manner.  In fact, the professor was very thoughtful and seemed to genuinely understand that I would be concerned for my child’s safety, comfort and the social aspects involved with the cultural changes that any of us would experience when relocating to a foreign land.  My son completed his TEFL course with his certificate last month.  He was challenged by the course, he shared that it was a very intensive program and that he experienced stress during the first week of getting adjusted to his new environment.  That is understandable.  He expressed incredible joy when he finished his final instruction, as the feedback from the student and instructors really reinforced his new love for teaching and helping others to learn the English language.  What more would we all want for our children?  Of course we want them happy and healthy, but the icing on the cake is that they experience a beautiful new culture, knowing that concerned instructors and strong administration are in-place when we are physically located ½ way across the globe.  I would recommend the Buenos Aires TEFL Institute for other Western students seeking to be educators.
